From: Franklin Armas (Brother) - a.k.a. "Franky"

Lonely is the home without you,
Life to us is not the same;
All the world would be like heaven,
If we could have you back again.

A light is from our household gone,
A voice we loved is still,
A place is vacant in our home,
That can never be filled.

May the God of Love and Mercy,
Care our loved one who is gone,
And bless with consolation,
Those left to carry on.

The happy hours we once enjoyed,
How sweet their memory still,
But death has left a vacant place,
This world can never fill.

How dearly we loved you,
And prayed you might live,
But Jesus just beckoned,
And we had to give.

God gave us strength to bear it,
And courage to fight the blow,
What is meant to lose you,
God alone will ever know.
(x2)

Sis, please watch over your family and mine for we all loved you very much.
Your brother ALWAYS, Franky...

My heartfelt condolences go out to Ken & Laura, Myrna, Jeanette, Jesse and their Mom.
You must know that I thank God everyday that you where a part of my sister's life.

With love...

My Geena,  where do I begin to express the ache that I feel inside because I can't call or swing by your house to find you.  It has been 8 days and I am really trying to be strong for James, the girls and the baby that won't stop moving inside me.  You were my best friend, my crutch, my sounding board, my pal, my bunco partner and my sister.  We have been through so much together, from doing our first communion, elementary, junior high and high school, partying, crying, being responsible for me finding my soul mate, being there during the birth of my first daughter, taking care of my first daughter when I was having my second.  You were there for every milestone but there are so many more to be had.  Even as I write this I still can't believe that you are not here with us.  I try to do the day to day things that need to get done but there is a part of me that yearns to hear your voice and see your face.  I suppose with time and the help of my family and God I will learn to live with that yearning and need to see and hear you.  I love you Gee, every day.

My daughter is Geena's god-daughter and namesake. Services were held in Florida on September 9th and my daughter decided that she wanted to speak at the services.  I was really surprised considering that my daughter had been having some anxiety issues over the last few months.  She wrote out what she wanted to say and everyone was so touched by her ability to stand in front of the room and share it.  I would like to share what she wrote with all of you.

"My name is Geena and Big Geena was my aunt and godmother. I called her Madrina.  She was a nice person and always tried to cheer me up when I was sad. I love her very much and I will miss her.  She was so beautiful in every way.  I love you Madrina."

She was my best friend.  I loved her very much and wish that she was still here with me. She was very special to me and a lot of people knew her.  I loved it when she would come over to my house and play with me.  She always made me clean my room.  She loved to play Pacman on my Gameboy and loved to take me out.  The last time she took me out we went for ice cream at Cold Stone.  She took me to New York for New Year's Eve last year and we flew first class. We had a lot of fun!  I loved it when she would take me to the movies and sometimes we would go with her friends.  I love you Madrina and thank you for all the things you have done for me.

I have three daughters, Geena became my fourth daughter in every sense of the word. I loved her just as my own... it's difficult to put into words... parents leave before their children not the children before the parent. Last year I got married on a cruise and all my four daughters and grandchildren went on my honeymoon... what a great time we got to spent together. Geena you have left a large whole in my heart that I can never fill.  It's hard to think that one of my daughters will not be with us anymore... I do know that you already have your wings and will watch over us... I Love you much.

It took me so long to write this because every time I start, I break down. Not since the death of my mother have I felt this pain—an emptiness that hurts every time I think of what has happened. I have lost a Sister, Titi to my kids, a Friend. Geena, I love you. I miss you. I will always remember you. My only consolation is that I know you are in a better place. Thank you for everything.

Love always, your brother, Tony

From: Jeanette Del Valle (sister)

Geena was my sister, best friend, confidante, and partner in crime. I miss her so very much. I struggle to find the words to express how I feel, but Ralph Waldo Emerson comes close:  “To laugh often and much; to win the respect of intelligent people and the affection of children; to earn the appreciation of honest critics and endure the betrayal of false friends; to appreciate beauty, to find the best in others; to leave the world a little better; whether by a healthy child, a garden patch or a redeemed social condition; to know even one life has breathed easier because you have lived. This is the meaning of success.” The world was a better place with Geena in it; she touched many, many lives and made those lives better; my sister was a success in every sense of the word. A part of me leaves with her. I love you, Chaka. Your big sister, Boobie.

I am so happy to see how many people love Geena...I can not imagine my life without her.  Geena was my soul sister and together,- I knew we could overcome anything and everything.  Geena's spirit will always live inside my heart and her sunlight will always shine on me to help me be strong.  Geena was a great friend, sister and aunt... Laughing, smiling and enduring was what Geena did best...I love and miss you Geena.

(Geena was my stepdaughter)

Dear Geena,

One of the biggest fears a parent can have, has just come true and that is having to bury one of his children.  I feel blessed for having you in my life, but I envy God because I know that now you are lighting up the heavens with your smile as you did on earth.  I just want to let you know that the biggest honor you gave me, was each time you called me Dad.  I will miss you forever and I pray that your soul will rest in peace.

Love Always and Forever,
Dad ~ Hector Martorell

Dear Geena,

You are brave and beautiful and a good soul. When I heard the news I was in denial, and angry, then sad and frustrated, then confused and sad. Lately, I feel the above and grateful too. I’m grateful to know you. I’m grateful that you are a part of my family.

I bet you didn’t know it but you taught me a lot about living. Even your passing gave me a lesson on embracing life. You taught me about the fragility of a moment and you taught me to be happy. You were always so happy when I saw you. I admired your willingness to experience. I loved your habit to explore and your taste for living.

I’m grateful I had the opportunity to dance with you at Janelle’s home coming party. Thank you for always greeting me with your smile. Thank you for all the lessons.

Geena, you are always in my thoughts. I’m so sad. You’re gone and I love you. I miss you.

I was at work when I got the call and till this day I can't believe it is reality.  Geena was a very happy person and I will always remember her for that.  I really can't remember seeing her without a smile on her face.  I remember when when she came with me my wife, Tony, Jeanette and family apple picking she and my son were like partners that day. I know that my son won't remember her but I will always remember that day.
We will always miss you Geena and you will always be in our hearts.

I can't believe it was only a few weeks ago when we were with Geena, and now she is no longer here.  She has shared so many memories with me, I can't see making new ones without her.  She was a beautiful person inside and out, and she touched everyone who knew her.  Geena, I'm already missing you!  You'll be with me forever in my heart.  Love you.

How can you make sense of such a tragic loss of someone so young and full of life.  Geena the "Sweetest girl in the world" as my dad described her, always with a smile on her face and always with a generous thought in her heart.  I am proud to have known her and may the heavens shower her with as much love and kindness as she gave all of us that knew her.  We will love and miss you always.

I met Big Gee when James and Myrna got married and she has been family ever since. I will always remember her smile, and her zest for life. The love she had for Myrna's kids was so beautiful, just as she was. I am shocked, angry, to learn of her untimely death, and so many emotions keep flowing thru me. I know she is in a better place, and looking down at all of us who knew and loved her. She would tell us not to be sad, but to be happy for the time we shared with her. Big Gee, we will always remember you, and will light a candle in your honor at all of our family gatherings so that we know that you are with us in spirit. God Bless You. Big Gee, rest in peace.

Geena has always been a good friend to our family. When ever we got together as a family she always brightened the time we spent together. Our children loved her very much and were full of laughter when she was around. (Like the time she dropped Jonathan's cake on him twice). We all love Geena and she will be greatly missed and never forgotten. We love you Geena.

Dearest Geena,
You were always there for all the important events in our lives. You were very generous with your time, traveling from Florida to be with us for Jennifer's graduation, sweet six-teen, family gathering at Christmas, Thanksgiving, etc. We will miss you very much but our love for you will never die. I will always remember when my mom was dying and you were with us until the very end. I have peace knowing that you are with my mom in a better place and that you will both take care of each other. You know she loved you very much. I guess it is true what they say "THE GOOD DIE YOUNG".

This web site is a labor of love for me.  It is the least that I can do for Geena, who for the past 6 years was one of my best friends - ever!  It's true that it's hard to find a true friend and even harder to lose one.  One of my favorite phrases is "live well, love much, laugh often"... Geena knew how to do all three exceptionally well and I admired her for that.  She was naturally beautiful on the outside but even more beautiful on the inside, good-natured, intelligent, classy, and had a great sense of humor.  People were drawn to her and she made friends wherever she went.  She was a joy to be around and a bright light to all who knew and loved her.  She was definitely someone to be treasured.  I will miss her dearly and always.  I have much more to say and will add to this with time, but for now I'll just say... goodbye, my dear, wonderful friend.  I love you and will miss you more than words possibly can say.

From: Steve Delafuente (friend from St. Gregory's church)

I was attending a St. Gregory Young adult function about 5-years ago when I heard an indescribable laugh from across the room.  When I turned to look I saw this beautiful smile that just lit up the whole room.  Immediately I knew there was something special about that person.  Later that night I got her name, it was Geena.

We became close friends right away and always kept in touch.
Only recently we went out for coffee and cake at a local café in Hollywood.

I found several old emails that Geena wrote to me and in nearly all of them Geena would write about how special I was, and how she was thankful that God put me into her life.  This was the kind of person Geena was, always making others feel special and cared for.

She would love to read the bible quotes I would email her.  Her favorite quote was from the book of Matthew (below).  I knew Geena well and I am certain she took the narrow path that leads to life.

Geena, your smile and laugh will always remain in my heart.
Love always,
Steve

Go through the narrow gate, because the gate to destruction is wide and the road that leads to it is easy, and there are many who travel it.  But the gate to life is narrow and the way that leads to it is hard and there are few people who find it.

I thought it would feel real when I attended her service on Thursday but it still feels very unreal.  I admired Geena alot... the way she carried herself, the warmth in her smile, the way she made you feel like time had not passed since the last time she saw you.  She was classy, unique, very creative (her pottery artwork is beautiful!), and she cherished my nieces.  I cannot believe I am not going to see her again at another family gathering. I wish so much that she had attended one of the "wine nights" -- I'll always regret not inviting her sooner.  Big G - "Ba-deeeee-na" as Little Gee used to say... I'll miss you.

Well, it gives me great sadness to write this.  Geena will always be known to me as a wonderful person, who I made laugh.  She was always kind with her words and had a beautiful smile to follow.  I admired her greatly and I hope she shines her grace upon me wherever she may be.  As in life we all realize how much people mean to us, unfortunately more so when they are gone.  But I am grateful to have known her.  All the hanging out, talks, laughs, good times and especially those goofy moments will always be remembered by me.  Geena I will never say good-bye, but until we meet again.

I knew Geena from the time of my first assignment with IBM (9 years ago).  She was very determined, driven and had a passion for life it was always very obvious from her radiant smile. This is a big loss since she was unique and touched many during her presence.  I'm grateful to have been given the opportunity to get to know her as a person outside of work and I'm left with some very fond memories.  My prayers and deepest sympathies are send to the Torres-Hodgins families during this very difficult time.  We will miss you Geena.

Geena was a high caliber quality individual that you knew you could count on; a jewel and rare gem.  The words "integrity" and "drive" easily characterize her. I knew and worked with Geena for five years at IBM. I think I should be saying something about how great she was to work with, etc., etc., but frankly I don't have the words to describe how awful and unfair it is that she should depart this world before the rest of us. I worked with Geena at IBM and we shared an office in New York just before she moved to Florida. I loved working side by side with Geena and our work relationship grew into a friendship outside the office.

The end came too early for Geena and too sudden for all those she left behind. She was a good person who was liked by all who met her and loved by all who knew her. Our memories are filled with the vision of her bright smile, and her love of family and friends and life and all they had to offer. My deepest sympathies to Geena's family.

My sincerest thoughts to Geena's family and friends.  I was her roommate this year at

The longer I live the more I realize life isn't fair.

I first met Geena while working at IBM in White Plains. I know many of Geena's friends and family have spoken about her smile, but I really feel as though I needed to once again say how lovely, calming, and full of life it was. Geena was intelligent and driven, and best of all always maintained a sense of reality, that everyone should be treated with respect. If she knew something was bothering you, she would not let you take it too seriously. Rather she would find a way to make you laugh. My heartfelt condolences go out to Geena's family and friends. Geena, you will be dearly missed, but you have touched so many hearts, and it is there we will carry you with us.

I am so deeply saddened to hear of Geena's death.  I worked with her at IBM when she first moved to Florida.  She always had a huge smile on her face and kinds words to share.   If Geena wasn't telling me excitedly about something new she was discovering in Florida, like her house, or scuba diving, she would have a funny, juicy story to tell.  My heart breaks for her family and loved ones.  You have lost a treasure in this life, but I believe that she is watching us from heaven, smiling still.

Dear Geena,
It's really hard for me to sit here and write this to you knowing that I'll never get to see you again. I can't even express the hurt that I felt when my sister called and told me what had happened. It's really weird to know someone and even to be close to that person and never get a chance to see them until it's too late. When I first me you like all young guys I have to admit I had a crush on you. Then as time went on that crush just became love for a friend. There will be another time for us to sit, talk, laugh, and hang out. I'm sure you'll be there waiting for everyone with that smile that everyone loves. Until we see each other again take care and I LOVE YOU.

Geena I miss you.  As I sit at this computer zoning still in disbelief at times, I do know that you are busy working in the house of the LORD. Geena I thank you for being a great role model and an inspiration to me. Whenever you were around at our house you created such a great feeling of happiness for me, Nikki, Shawnee, Mommy, Jadda, little Bryant Jr. and even William. Back in the day (St. Lawrence University) I use to be jealous of the relationship that you and Nikki had, but as I got to know you I could see why you two were so close and why you had such a special place in Nikki's heart- your smile, laugh, silly jokes, intelligence and your caring personality. I will always keep you in my heart for the love that you shared. I will always keep you in my mind as I will continue to climb mountains and overcome the so many pits that life has to offer just like you did.  Geena I just miss you so much and I know that you are watching over us from above and one day we will all meet again in a time of unspeakable joy.
I LOVE YOU GEENA

It is a great shock to hear of a tragedy of someone so gracious and kind.  She will surely
be missed and in our hearts.  You are all in my prayers.  She was always nice and
never had a bad word to say about anyone.  It is a sad day and a great loss to us all.

My prayers and deepest condolences are offered to the family, friends and beloved acquaintances of Geena.  Dated memories of Geena at St. Lawrence come back to visit me at this moment as I take the time to commit a moment of silence in her memory.  It is with comfort that I find that Geena is in a place where she can embrace the world as she would have liked in her natural life.  GOD Bless!

I would like to express my deepest and most sincere condolences to Geena's family.  I still find it hard to believe that I will not have the opportunity to sit, talk and laugh with Geena about various memories from our college days.  As I sit and think of Geena, I recall her laughter, sincerity, kindness to me, and her bright and radiant smile.  I recently had the opportunity to meet with a few of Geena's best friends in New York, and I was looking forward to a reunion and seeing Geena again, it had been about 11 years since we saw each other.  But unfortunately that was not able to happen before I got this shocking news. Geena your memory lives on and on and I'll always remember your smile.  May God's peace be with Geena's family, and may she live in your heart always. God bless you all.

Gee,
I don't know what to say. I am still in shock. The pain I feel is so intense.
To know that someone who impacted my life so much has left this world...
You, me and Cheryl, we were inseparable!!  You will never know how much
our time together meant to me. The laughs, the tears, the fights and the sharing.

I will love you and miss you always...

One of your many best friends,
Marcia a.k.a. "Peaches"

Geena, what can I say... I still find myself looking into the sky and talking to you. I can still hear your voice and your laughter so clearly. I am hoping that now you have found peace. I am so grateful that God gave us another chance, that Myrna was able to bring us all back together again. You, me and Marcia were the three musketeers in high school. You and Marcia were the sisters I never had. Although there was a gap of time where we didn't connect, I never forgot about you, and I always prayed we would find each other again and we did.  If I can say anything about Geena, I will say that she was fearless, when Gee was determined, no one could get in her way. She was a pioneer in every aspect. Always the first to try something. She was a wonderful spirit that thrived despite any hardships around her. I am so grateful to Laura and Ken, and Mini and her family. I knew she was always in good hands with you guys. I just refuse to believe that I won't hear from you again. Gee, I know you will watch over Max and Sean for me. I love you girl, and I know I will see you again in the next lifetime. My condolences to Ken and Laura, Geena loved you guys very much. Gee, give Brando and Peaches (her dogs) a hug for me.

As we stare into the heavenly skies
We look for you, hoping one day we will see you

We all picture you still as sweet and beautiful as you were
Looking down on us, watching everything we do

Now you are an angel with wings
And you hold a special place in everyone's heart

Your spirit keeps everyone alive
And in our hearts we will never, ever be apart
May Your Soul Rest In Peace

Your Friend, Mariela Ruiz

It took me a while to ensure that I had the right person, and after viewing the above image for the third time I realized I had the right person. I vaguely remember helping her move into her new house in Tamarac. The reality is setting in now, and it sucks. Geena, wherever you are, keep smiling. And laughing. Someone you may barely remember is smiling because of you. To Geena's family, and to all our friends in the Young Adult Group, you have my sympathy and prayers.

I remember Geena as a nice person, and although I did not know her personally, she seemed active in the Young Adult Ministry at St. Gregory's. On behalf of the Young Adult leaders at St. Gregory's, I would like to express my sincere condolences to the family of Geena Torres-Hodgins and that our spiritual leader, Luke Rissmiller, will keep her family in prayer and also on the prayer chain list.

I met Geena through her sisters Jeanette and Minnie approximately ten years ago.
Although I only saw her at social gatherings, I grew quite fond of her.
I will always remember her radiant smile and her charming personality.

My deepest condolences to Geena's family and friends.  I met Geena thru Myrna and have shared many Martorell gatherings with her.  I know how special she was to everyone.  May you all find comfort in the below passage.

Psalm 23

A psalm of David.

The LORD is my shepherd, I shall not be in want.
He makes me lie down in green pastures,
he leads me beside quiet waters,
he restores my soul.
He guides me in paths of righteousness
for his name's sake.
Even though I walk
through the valley of the shadow of death,

I will fear no evil,
for you are with me;
your rod and your staff,
they comfort me.

You prepare a table before me
in the presence of my enemies.
You anoint my head with oil;
my cup overflows.
Surely goodness and love will follow me
all the days of my life,
and I will dwell in the house of the LORD
forever.

My condolences to everyone. Though I never had the privilege to meet the family, I was blessed to have known Geena. She was a wonderful person, a person that lit the room with her million $ smile. Know that she served her purpose on earth and God has now called her for higher purpose. May God give you all the strength to carry on!

My deepest and most heartfelt condolences to Geena's family.  She was an absolutely beautiful young woman and I thank you for creating this site in her memory so that those of us who did not know her in true life might have the opportunity to share in the beauty of her life and grief of her loss.  May God bless each of you at this difficult time.
